Had the octopus as a main which was excellent and my wife had the steak. What a waste of money and time. Lisbon still manages to maintain it's old world charm, something most cities have long lost. Location is fantastic if you get hungry while walking around the heart of the city.Excellent food, very inexpensive. Egg OK at the third attempt, but steak overdone and fried potatoes underdone. We had a very long wait between our main and our dessert and then sat for 40 minutes waiting for our bill while the staff busily cleared the tables around us. The dinner menu appeared to be wonderful, and we were sorry to have discovered Elevador on the last day of our stay in Lisbon. Steaks and octopus were top quality, as were the sweets. When fish is served as fresh with very little but potatoes, it really needs to be fresh, - and in my opinion this one was not.This restaurant is linked to the Hotel Santa Justa where we stayed. Went there twice and enjoyed very much.

But as a Norwegian who are used to fresh cod directly from the boat the Bacalao was not impressing. Tends to be crowded, so make a reservation. It's still possible to see the old ladies chating in the streets, the old taverns, the laundry in the balconies, the kids playing in the Alfama alleys, the fado music coming from a window and so on. A Travessa is listed as having some of the best food in Lisbon and certainly our meal was delicious but the service was so dismal the wonderful food experience was somewhat spoiled.
We could not get any any sense as to who that was as we were given menus by one waitress, our order taken by another, food delivered by yet another, wine and water by someone else and on it went ! Overall, good food, good service, but at a high cost.A very nice place with excellent cuisine, which is actually a mixture of inspirations from Portugal and elsewhere, especially Belgium. BAD service, BAD food, BAD prices......The appetizers were varied and good. Everyone of our group of 10 friends liked their main course. Given that my meal had to go back twice, my partner and I ate separately.Decent restaurant with good service and nice wine, all for a fair price. Good wine, polite staff, excellent linen, and unlike its neighbours, no touting by aggressive waiters. Own or manage this property? By the time we got our bill the restaurant was empty save for two tables, the table across from us turned our twice during our time there. The people seemed barely tolerant and only interested in taking your money or getting your business. A cinnamon stick and fresh mint were the secrets. Reasonably priced with a good choice of Portuguese wines. The outside of the restaurant and adjoining hotel were very attractive, and a lot of people were sitting outside enjoying what looked to be very good food.
Appetizers just start coming, small tastes of many things, but the small roast clams were the best ever and the oysters were perfect.
