Especially for Dawn Weiner when everyone at school calls you 'Dog-Face' or 'Wiener-Dog.' The story follows the unpopular middle schooler Dawn as she goes to extreme lengths trying to earn the respect of her vicious fellow students and her disinterested family. Meanwhile, Harv's car breaks down and Marj has to pick him up. A day in the life of a group of teens as they travel around New York City skating, drinking, smoking and deflowering virgins. Solondz has a way of showing how oblivious, manipulative and pathetic some people are and how quick they are able to turn on each other, and he does so by making each scenario darkly hilarious.

One of the highlights of the 1995 Toronto Festival, Solondz's second film is a stark, often funny, always poignant comedy about suburban mores, centering on a misfit Jewish girl tormented by her family and classmates. An unpopular seventh-grade girl finds her life a living hell, thanks to the ridicule of her peers and the indifference of her family.
