While there is so much debate about sonia not being an Indian, it must be appreciated that she did every possible thing to make india her own.

I don't understand why Sonia Gandhi is said to have sued the author, because it treats her story and that of her family in a very real, sympathetic and believable way. It is true that I read any book that I can lay my hands on. The fact that it is red, rather than white and gold like a traditional wedding dress or sari, suggests that the woman wants to be unconventional and to reject the cultural implications of a wedding sari. A compelling read.


The writer has very good style, and detailed and relatively accurate sources to write this book which reflect sympathy towards the family Nehru-Gandhi. I must confess that I am not really very familiar with the concept of 'fictional biography', but if it is a genre which over simplifies historical events to the extent of providing an alternate narrative which is overly kind to the so called 'first family', I dont think it is something I can appreciate well.Not bad at all! The title alludes to the red sari which was spun by Jawaharlal Nehru in prison that was worn by his wife Kamala during the time of their marriage.
